ROXOLANA + JOEL

So how does one write a ‘short’ blog post about their best friends wedding? I think we’ll have to break this one down for sure!

Roxy and Joel are one of those couples that live to celebrate life, they live generously, kindly and filled with love and support for all those around them - so when they asked us to flower their day, it was a decision made without hesitation! Knowing these hearts, their journey and all the obstacles of the pandemic brought, we were devoted to give our all!

COLOUR PALETTE
Although their date and venue changed, Roxy’s colour palette of dreams was something that did not - pink and green with a touch of blue is what we stuck to.

THE FLOWERS
The change in date did mean a slight problem with Roxy’s desire for hydrangeas, sadly out of season by a month! But nevertheless, we came up with a plan B. We ordered our favourite paniculata hydrangeas, we let them dry before spray painting them pink! Can you tell in the photos? Orchids, roses, green carnations, dahlias, hybrid gerbera’s and anthuriums were the main must-haves for the day! “Luscious and big so that you want to bite them” were some of the words Roxy described.

STYLING
A European summer garden was the anchor that lead the design, and included fruit en masse such as grapes, watermelons and limes. We also created break out ‘garden-esque’ vignettes for guests to sit on the vintage furniture and take a Polaroid picture - it was a hit!

THE SET UP
I will have to also add that I was the maid of honour, so calculating logistics of when to set up and also get some sleep was of the upmost priority! After all, I wanted to make sure I could take in the whole day as my best friend got married! So, at 1am (yes at night), we began creating the installations until 4am - if you have a florist friend, you KNOW this is not uncommon to work at all hours of the day. On the day, the beautiful Brooke from Brooke Art Studio’s styled and placed all the florals, fruit, menu cards and candles for the couple, while the ceremony flowers went in at the rehearsal the night before - we did it!

Roxy and Joel were a joy to create for, giving us freedom to go’ wilde’ always allows us to dream big and beautiful! It was a day full of love, joy, so much food, and so much fun! We can’t recommend a night at out at the Matrioshka Restaurant highly enough, for a Saturday night submerged in Russian culture!

A big congratulations to our friends Roxy and Joel, thank you for giving us the joy to create something beautiful for you! xx
